About the company
Julius Meinl, a family business in its fifth generation, is among the top 3 premium coffee brands in the premium gastronomy category in more than 40 countries (B2B).
Context and challenge
Julius Meinl's challenge was that the infrastructure, especially the application landscape, was fragmented, leading to a lot of wasted effort in consolidating data. The available data was inconsistent and processes relied heavily on Excel for reporting. The company wanted to transition to a more agile, centrally managed organization, away from a "federation of countries" setup, to execute a strong buy-and-build strategy while leveraging available data for greater sales efficiency and effectiveness .
Strategy and approach
The solution consisted of developing a technology roadmap and setting up the right IT organization and infrastructure. We migrated 19 SAP R3 instances to a single SAP S4 Hana setup within 12 months. We introduced an open data and AI platform for advanced analytics and e-commerce. In addition, we provided program and change management to ensure the transformation program was business focused. We also improved IT security and governance and established a unified ERP migration project across all business and back-office functions.
The result
The result for Julius Meinl was a greatly improved IT infrastructure with one uniform SAP S4 Hana setup, improved data management and IT security, and an integrated platform for data analysis and AI. This led to more efficient business processes, better sales performance, faster decision-making and a solid foundation for further growth. The technology initiatives allowed them to better achieve strategic goals and create value within their organization faster.
